Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit this memorial site for our father, Carl Pykonen. You can access the navigation menu at the top of the screen by tapping the three bars in the upper left on mobile, or by clicking "Pop's Place" in the upper right on desktop.
This site is a refreshed, ongoing update to the original site we created during his diagnosis and battle with cancer in 2000. Here, you will find archived progress updates, his obituary, stories written by others about Dad, the guest book archive(coming soon), and the slideshow shown at his Celebration of Life—all with much better formatting than before (web design has come a long way since 2001!).
The original site, Pop's Place, remains viewable via the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. While it isn't a complete backup, it captured many precious pieces in its orginal format. The Wayback Machine is a wonderful service that helps preserve internet history—something so easily lost in the digital age.
This site was created before I had even heard of CaringBridge (founded in 1997), or any similar site. I just wanted to provide the community around us a way to stay connected with us and us with them. I hope that friends and family, and future generations view these few pages and get to know our father a bit better. May you glean something from the bits and bytes here that you can share with others in your life. And may that make a difference.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
